About Second Line Festival 2022

The First Annual Second Line Festival, November 11th and 12th, is a destination weekend event celebrating the joy of a colorfully unique New Orleans tradition. The “Second Line” consists of those who follow a brass band through the streets during Mardi Gras, on any given Sunday, or even after a jazz funeral, where solemn hymns give way to up-tempo music for dancing. Folks of all ages join in with handkerchiefs and umbrellas in an informal parade that authentically captures the culture and spirit of New Orleans. The Festival weekend will feature a formal parade with a celebrity Grand Marshal, food and vendors, and an elegant gala, while raising funds for an interactive Second Line Museum to preserve and document the tradition. A partnership with the Black America Music Association will further acknowledge the city’s historic role in the creation of the music and produce a televised awards ceremony where Medals of Honor will be presented to the most exemplary performers in all genres of Black Music.
